Self Introducion

Passionate Engagement in Education

I am writing to apply for the tutoring jobs I have observed previously, in which I suppose myself the right candidate for the position. As a matter of fact, my excellence in academic studies and extra-curricular activities has proven my uttermost suitability for the position, suggesting that I can maximise the learning experience students can obtain from my teaching. My points are chiefly as follows.

To commence with, I am a high-achiever in various examinations and am keen to learn. I am an active learner, having partaken in numerous internationally recognised examinations at an early age. At the age of 14, I desired to challenge myself using internationally rigorous benchmarks and achieved an A (85%) in First Language English in the IGCSE, followed by an A* (91%) in Mathematics (IGCSE) in the same academic year. I never felt satisfied with such achievements since I regard them as signs of encouragement rather than my eventual goal. I then enlarged my scope of study, having eventually achieved A*A in respectively Chemistry and History (IGCSE) in the subsequent examination series. Although having received a Hong Kong-patterned education during my years of secondary study in Hong Kong, I regard the HKDSE (HK’s school leaving qualification) as totally inadequate as it provides fewer chances for me to stretch and improve. At the age of 17, I achieved A*AACC in 5 GCE/IAL subjects, which are dispersed in mainly sciences, mathematics and linguistics. My broad scope of study enabled me to think clearly and critically of different matters, rather than merely reciting from the book. My academic brilliance ascertains the fact that I am experienced in British public examinations, hence being capable of offering fellow students rich knowledge and study guidance. As a former student at a Hong Kong school, I am pleased to offer students with a fresh learning experience by teaching in a different method. Even though having said so, my teaching tactics vary from one student to another, aiming solely to maximise their learning potential, granting them a chance to ‘shine’.

I am also a success in extra-curricular activities, having been recognised by various organisations. I am presently a member, although having completed my secondary education, of the University of Hong Kong Academy for the Talented, an institution held by the university dedicated to provide quality learning experiences to gifted children. The university, famed as a top tertiary institution in Hong Kong, has broadened my horizons by holding workshops concerning the academic sciences and practical skills like interviews. Such an honourable opportunity informed me that learning is not merely confined to the nonchalant classroom and can be practised in a different context. As a matter of fact, I have also achieved a silver award in Science (98.2%) when attempting the Project Talent Search, a project held by the Hong Kong Gifted Education Council aiming to seek the cream of the crop of Hong Kong’s educational sector. A four-week intensive course held by the Council followed, educating me on modern Chinese developments and interpersonal skills, allowing me to approach matters in a different manner, heeding more about the world around me. Interested in literature, I am also a keen achiever of awards in various solo verse speaking competitions in a multitude of languages, including English, Cantonese and so forth. My academic prowess can certainly proffer students with a different outlook of learning, enriching it to a sense of enjoyment rather than an experience constructed from boredom.

Being a dual national of Britain and Hong Kong, I have spent a considerable amount of time in an Anglo-Chinese family devoted into the education field. My grandparents and parents all devote/devoted efforts in the field and aroused my interest in teaching. Education in my opinion is a strong device which enables students to learn and shine. Some students are less academically-inclined and some are very willing to learn only unfortunately being deprived of the chance owing to financial concerns. I frankly do not care about the monetary gains of contributing in the education field, since my sole aim is to gain sufficient experience for my prospective devotion to teaching, educating wholeheartedly our new generation, empowering a strong workforce for the construction of a better place to live in.

Above all, I am a keen educator and I sincerely hope I can be offered an opportunity to teach. I am available at all times.
